Auditing Telecom Bills

Where do the errors come from?

The complexity of Telecommunications services may be part of the problem, but it is not the whole story.  If  your telecom requirements are static there may be very few errors.  But, if your requirements are dynamic, the opportunity for errors increases significantly.  

The reality is that telecom bills, whether paper or electronic, are far too large and complex to audit monthly.  Even when vendors provide management software, these are often restricted to preset reports, don't link to your financial system, and don't allow the kind of tight audit process required.  Let's face it, your savings are your vendors loss.

Changes in tariffs and rates is another area where companies are vulnerable to overcharges.  Updates may not be applied properly, and the change in the bill is too small to be noticed.  Or the new rates may not be applied to all of your phones.  Or the tariffs are properly applied, but the configuration is out of date.

Relying entirely on vendors, no matter how trusted, just does not protect you from billing errors.  You wouldn't pay your personal telephone bill without at least glancing at every item on the bill, so why would you treat your organization's phone bill any differently?

Our customers tell us that even with very tight controls they expect errors of about 10% of the bill will creep in every year.
